Walking around the flat and wearing just underwear in winter! That is what real indoor climate comfort looks like!
Mr. Ševčík lives in a two-bedroom flat in a gorgeous mountain town Lázně Libverda situated 550 m above sea level at the foothills of the Jizera Mountains. However, this location doesn’t mean just beautiful environment but also harsh winters with outside temperature often dropping below -20 °C. The flat is in an older house built in the 70’s, lacking any additional thermal insulation. The existing double-glaze plastic windows were installed at the beginning of the 90’s. The flat is heated by a standard electric boiler which supplies radiators with warm water. The output of heat can be regulated by choosing one of the following settings: 2 kW, 6 kW or 9 kW. In the 2009/2010 heating season, Mr. Ševčík was forced to have the boiler on for up to 20 hours a day at the 6 kilowatt setting, and still, the ambient temperature never exceeded 19 °C, which is why he was compelled to wear warm clothing at home at all times. What’s more, at the end of the season the final bill for heating amounted to CZK 27,560!
The following year, before the 2010/2011 winter season even began, Mr. Ševčík installed three PION units in the flat: two PION 1100 W models and one PION 1400 W. The more powerful unit went to the living room (with an area of 25 m2), the smaller model types were each installed in the kitchen and the study. Once the infrared heaters were in place, the boiler did not have to be switched on for more than 6 hours per day and only at the lowest 2 kilowatt setting!
The result was a fundamental favourable change in the indoor climate comfort throughout the whole flat – suddenly it was possible to spend time at home while wearing just underwear. Though the ambient temperature in the rooms never reached any extreme values (i.e. there was no unnecessary wasting of electricity). The most pleasant change turned up at the end of the heating season: to Mr. Ševčík’s great surprise the total electricity bill came to CZK 21,400 this time, which translates into a savings equal to roughly one fifth of the former heating expenses!

Summary
To introduce indoor warmth comfort to your home does not necessarily require a huge investment and drastic alterations of your household. The best solution might lie in an intelligent combination of heating systems – using your current heaters together with one or more PION units: Thus with a small purchase investment you can steer the heat into the desired areas and even in cold flats for good forget about having “cold feet”.
